Hire your own historic ferry!
When people think about Amsterdam,
their thoughts go immediately to the centre of the city.
But Amsterdam has a lot more to offer. If there's anything that Amsterdam
is is characteristically known for it's its relationship to water. Who doesn't know the stories and pictures of its canals, bridges, tour boats, house boats and other
characteristic aspects of the city. The ferries are being taken out of retirement by the Amsterdam museum of public transport in close cooperation with a number of Amsterdam
boroughs and put to into service again.
There are a number of possibilities, you may choose to sail the
inland waterways of Amsterdam. You might settle for a trip to the KNSM island
or how about a tour to Pampus (small island nearby)? If you like Noord Holland Catering will
arrange this for you.
Next to taking a boat ride it's also possible to have drinks, dinner or a buffet while
moored at the quay.
In short, take this wonderful opportunity and rent your own historic ferry!

The sailing trips
The ships depart from behind central station. You may determine your desiny yourself.
You may get off or get on at various places during the trip.
You may decide to take a closer look at some particular site or walk through
one of the imposing areas of Amsterdam. You may stick to the route as
indicated on the map below but then again you may not.
Here below are a number of areas listed that are certainly worth visiting.
The Java and KNSM islands
The Java isle is a modern peninsula, situated in the eastern harbor area of Amsterdam.
It's an island full of
architectural delights. Both the Java isle as well as the KNSM island are joined to the
city only by a bridge. The island is also a popular location for concerts and events.
Additionally it is a gathering place for many ships like the clipper Stad Amsterdam
of which this city is its home port.
The KNSM island is beautifully situated on the IJ and features many marvelous buildings. It has a very mixed population causing a truly cosmopolitan atmosphere, the presence of yachts and house boats on the south side of the isle add to this as well.
The Nieuwendammerdijk
This dike in the North of Amsterdam also comes highly recommended. The history of the
Nieuwendammerdijk goes way back. Wooden houses from the 16th century alternate with various
churches and houses owned by ship captains from a 100 years later. Right next to this dike lies Tuindorp Nieuwendam.
A tangible inheritance of the socialistic opinion from the twenties: decent housing for all laborers, done in the style of the famous Amsterdam School.
Pampus
Pampus is perceived as an adventurous and historic Island. A visit to this place is certainly worth while. The Island was a fortress and on it you'll find lots of information about Dutch forts and how they used water as a defense. It's also possible to take part in survival activities on the Isle.
